Court cases divert 90% of senators, according to Kingibe

Ireti Kingibe, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Women’s Affairs, expressed worry about the continuing election petition cases at the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal on Wednesday. She said that these cases were deterring parliamentarians from carrying out their jobs efficiently.

She claimed that during the eight weeks since the National Assembly’s inauguration, 90% of the senators had been entirely preoccupied with NAEPT.

Additionally, she promised to collaborate with Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, on projects aimed at developing the nation’s capital.

This was stated in an interview with journalists in Abuja by the FCT’s representative to the federal legislature who was elected on the Labour Party’s platform.

She praised the Tribunal for confirming her victory for the FCT Senate seat but expressed disapproval of some of the rulings made by courts nationwide, stating that the appellate court needed to fix several irregularities.

She responded that court cases have an impact on legislation when asked what the 10th National Assembly had accomplished thus far since its inception.

The truth is, according to Kingibe, you have to treat your leaders with kindness just as you would like them to treat you. I’ll describe for you how most members of the National Assembly have spent the past 18 months.

She continued by saying that the majority of senators, particularly the new ones, speak up on issues of national significance and that the Senate President handled the situation well.
