Court To Hear Motion On El-Rufai’s Asset Declaration Case May 2

Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai

A Kaduna State High Court sitting in the state capital will on May 2, rule on the motion on notice filed by the counsel to Today Publishing company, the publishers of the Union Newspapers, seeking the recall of the state governor, Nasir El-Rufai for further cross-examination in the suit he instituted against the company.

The court presided over by Justice Mairo Mohammed, is also expected to receive the assets declaration documents of Governor El-Rifa’i on the same date.

The governor had in 2017 opened and closed his case challenging the report published by the newspaper in which it claimed he had declared N90 billion in his assets declaration form to the Code of Conduct Bureau in 2016.

Although the trial judge had during the last sitting, issued a bench warrant against the CCB chairman for failing to appear before the court, he was represented by his counsel, Temitope Adeyemi, during Wednesday’s sitting.

In his written application, Mr Adeyemi, requested for another date to enable the bureau to carry on the process of producing the assets declaration document of the governor, on the grounds that the chairman is new in office, having assumed duty in November 2018.

He further explained that the CCT chairman had no prior knowledge of the subpoena, as such requested for a new date to produce the assets documents.

The Judge later adjourned the matter to May 2, to consider the motion.
