Danny Rose has been pictured back in full-contact Newcastle training just 10 days after claiming Premier League stars were being treated like ‘lab rats’.

Rose was one of the more outspoken skeptics about the Premier League returning to action in the coming weeks, admitting that he didn’t want to ‘risk health for entertainment’.

But now, with top-flight action set to return on June 17 and full-contact training back underway across the 20 teams, Rose has been back at Newcastle’s training ground.

The defender, who is currently on loan from Tottenham, joined up with his team-mates for a full session on Thursday, and was then pictured by Sky Sports’ cameras taking part in a small-sided match in the sunshine on Friday.

This comes just over a week after Rose expressed his concerns about returning to the pitch with the coronavirus pandemic still wreaking havoc across the world.

Speaking to the Lockdown Tactics podcast, he said: ‘I’m dying to get back to football but with the things that are happening, people are going through the coronavirus pandemic a lot worse than me.

‘I don’t want to be complaining about everything — just the fact that people are suggesting we should go back to football, like we’re guinea pigs or lab rats.

‘We’re going to experiment this phase and see if it works or not. I can imagine people at home saying, “Well they earn that amount of money so they should be going back”.

‘For stuff like that, I think, “Is it worth the hassle?” I could be potentially risking my health for people’s entertainment and that’s not something I want to be involved in, if I’m honest.’

Rose is also expected to extend his stay at Newcastle at least until the end of the season, with his current deal set to expire at the weekend.

The England international, as well as many other loanees in the Premier League, would have finished the season by this point under normal circumstances, but extensions are now being agreed to keep players at their loan clubs until the end of July.
