The BNL, in a statement issued by its national leader, Princewill Richards, noted that the Director-General of the DSS, Yusuf Bichi, would have been sent to jail in saner climes.

“According to a report by SaharaReporters, the Biafra Nations League (BNL) has condemned the actions of operatives of the Department of State Services who have continually restricted access to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

The BNL, in a statement issued by its national leader, Princewill Richards, noted that the Director-General of the DSS, Yusuf Bichi, would have been sent to jail in saner climes.

According to the statement, Bichi and the security agency have on several occasions disobeyed the order of the court which permitted Kanu’s lawyers to meet with their client on Mondays and Thursdays.

Richards blamed the court for not enforcing its orders on DSS, saying, “I don’t know why most Africans especially Nigerians behave like they are not civilised; in a civilised nation, DSS can’t try the nonsense they’re doing when there’s a court order. Their boss should be in prison by now.”

He further alleged that the security operatives were responsible for the worsening security situations in the South East adding that unless they stopped illegal activities, the issue of unknown gunmen might take a longer period to end.

Kanu’s family and his team of lawyers had raised fresh concerns over his safety, claiming that the DSS had been denying them access to him for weeks now.

Binta Nyako, a judge of the Federal High Court in Abuja had said Kanu should be allowed to meet his lawyers and family members twice a week – Mondays and Thursdays.

However, Kanu’s younger brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu last Monday said he was at the Abuja headquarters of the DSS where the IPOB leader is currently detained but was not allowed to see him.

Also, the agitator’s lawyers were not granted access to the IPOB lawyer. This has since raised speculations of Kanu’s death in custody but in a statement on Monday, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, one of Kanu’s lawyers assured that Kanu is “very much alive” in the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS.
