Some Muslim faithful were going for early morning prayers in a mosque around Halleluyah Estate, a community in Egbedore local government area of Osun state on Wednesday were attacked by some security guards working in the area.
Sources in the area told our correspondent that the incident happened around 5:30 am in the morning.
A
resident, simply identified as Taiwo Olawoore, who was also going to
mosque at the time the incident happened, in a chat, said they heard
several gunshots and people ran in different directions to escape being
shot.
While contacted, spokesperson for Osun Police Command, SP
Folasade Odoro, said a suspect is in police custody in connection with
the incident.
“We got a distress call from the area and we
promptly responded. We made arrest and the person arrested is being
interrogated,” Odoro said.
She further explained that the man arrested was a security guard hired by the community to provide security at night.
Odoro
added that the security guard was obviously drunk and reportedly shot
into the air, and not at the worshippers going for prayers.
She assured that the matter would be thoroughly investigated to prevent reoccurrence.
