Manchester City shot stopper Ederson has revealed Brazilian hero Rogerio Ceni was his idol while growing up.

Ederson started his youth career with Sao Paulo before departing for
Benfica in 2009. His switch to City was completed in 2017 and the
goalkeeper remains a crucial first-team player under Pep Guardiola.

Ceni
is regarded as one of Brazil’s finest ever goalkeepers, winning the
World Cup in 2002 and lifting 20 major honours during his 23-year spell
with Sao Paulo.

As well as his goalkeeping skills, Ceni is
remembered by many for his ability to take free kicks and penalties
despite donning the gloves, netting 131 goals during his career.

Ederson embodies a modern-day goalkeeper and revealed Ceni was someone he always looked up to.

“Rogerio Ceni has always been my inspiration,” he told ManCity.com.

“When I started to play in school, I didn’t have an idol as such, I didn’t really like football in my nursery days.

“I used to go three times a week due to my brother’s influence and also because our friends used to go as well.

“So,
I began to attend and started playing and after that I moved to the
goal and from the moment that I started playing as a goalkeeper, I
started following Rogerio Ceni.

“From that moment onwards, he became my inspiration and idol.”
