Christian Eriksen has seen his Inter future thrown into doubt after less than half a season in Italy, with the club continuing to make player’s in his position priority transfer targets.

At the end of the season, the Italian club will complete a permanent move for midfielder Stefano Sensi from Sassuolo for over €20million (£17.7m) while Marcelo Brozovic and Nicolo Barella will also remain with the club.

In Inter’s three-man midfield, the available roles are already over-subscribed.

According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, the former Tottenham midfielder has already begun to doubt his future in Italy.

It is making a difficult situation worse for Eriksen.

He has not had the time to find a new house in the northern Italian city and revealed he has been stuck living at Inter Milan’s training complex due to the lockdown.

The former Tottenham midfielder explained, according to The Sun: ‘I thought of talking to Romelu Lukaku and Ashley Young, but they already had families to look after, and 14 days sleeping on someone’s sofa is too long.

‘Instead, I ended up staying at the club’s training structure with a chef and five members of staff who chose to quarantine themselves in order to protect their families.’

Bought for €20million (£17.7m) in January with a contract worth €10m (£8.8m) a year, Eriksen’s contract was a vote of confidence from his side.

That wage, however, weighs like a boulder on the economic accounts of a company that continues to invest in that same position after betting on the Dane’s ability to slot into a 3-5-2 formation.

Antonio Conte wants Arturo Vidal and Sandro Tonali and both remain top targets for the Italian coach despite already owning Eriksen.

Eriksen is understood to be adamant that he does not want to become a reserve for Barella or Tonali, and wants to play.

Above all, he feels the club are not showing him the respect he deserves after accepting Inter’s proposal in such a delicate moment for his career.

At the resumption of individual training there will be a frank dialogue between Conte, the club and the player. Eriksen did not choose Inter to remain on the bench.
