Maduka Okoye was in goal for Nigeria on Tuesday night, January 11, as Kelechi Iheanacho’s goal gave the Super Eagles a 1-0 win over Egypt in their first game at the ongoing AFCON in Cameroon.

The Dutch side however took to their official social media page to celebrate their goalkeeper Maduka Okoye for keeping a cleansheet against the Pharaohs and also wished him well. In celebrating the Super Eagles, Sparta Rotterdam decided to lit the Sparta Stadion Het Kasteel in the famous Green and white colours of Nigeria.

Maduka Okoye has been with Sparta Rotterdam since 2020 and recently the club sold him to Premier League side Watford, but he will be moving to England at the end of the season. How many game has Okoye played for Super Eagles? Maduka Okoye has been in goal for Nigeria in 11 games and he is currently the country’s number one at the African Cup of Nations.

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how chairman of Air Peace, Allen Onyema, offered the whooping sum of N50million to the Super Eagles of Nigeria if they emerge as champions of the 33rd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations. Onyema made this promise after gifting the Super Eagles N10million for their victory against the Pharaohs of Egypt in their opening group D game.

Kelechi Iheanacho’s 30th-minute strike was enough to guarantee maximum points for Nigeria as the Super Eagles go top of Group D with 3 points after their win with Guinea-Bissau playing out a barren draw against Sudan in the group’s other game.

Nigeria will take to the pitch next on Saturday, January 15, when they file out against Sudan in a bid to seal a second-round spot after two games while Egypt will tackle Guinea-Bissau in the group’s other game.
