Brazil star Luiz Adriano’s wife has shared her support for the George Floyd protestors after revealing that she received death threats when she married her footballer husband last year.
Ekaterina Dorozhko started dating the former Spartak Moscow striker during his two-year spell at the Russian Premier League champions.
And the Russian model admitted she endured a campaign of abuse after moving to Brazil when Adriano joined Palmeiras last summer.
She wrote on Instagram: “In the beginning, when I went to football in Brazil, people had the courage to shout at me “look, the Russian is coming, hahaha”.
“Every day, for a long time, I received messages where they wished me death, wished illness on my parents and promised to find me, beat me and many other terrible things because I am married to a black man.
“I’m lucky because I have nerves of steel and I stopped paying attention.”
Dorozhko went on to express her sympathy for the thousands of protestors around the world that have swarmed the streets following the death of George Floyd.
The United States has descended into chaos since the 46-year-old died in police custody when officer Derek Chauvin was filmed kneeling on his neck during an arrest.
Footage of him begging for help in Minneapolis, Minnesota, went viral and caused widespread outrage both online and on the streets as mass riots broke out in the city.
And Dorozhko added: “My heart hurts because of what is happening in the world.”
“I thank my parents for my education and my view of the world. I have never separated people by skin color, hair color or status. For me, we are all the same.
“Half of my family is black and I love them all so much. I was afraid that they would not accept me because I am Russian and I have a different mentality and my whole life is very different.
“Why is there so much cruelty in people? After all, love and friendship knows no color. If hell and paradise exist, then hell is here on Earth. I wish and dream that we all become kinder and wiser because the future depends on us.”
