Female Lawmaker Cries Out To Police, Raises Alarm Over Threats To Her Life. Photo

Delta Central Senatorial Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State, Hon Evelyn Oboro, is not a happy person as a result of consistent threats to her life.

She alleged that some persons suspected to be supporters of her major rival in the fast approaching national assembly elections, have been placing calls to her phone with unknown telephone numbers threatening to eliminate her and some of her prominent supporters if she does not step down for the serving Senator of the opposition party, Ovie Omo-Agege.

Oboro, a serving federal lawmaker representing Uvwie, Okpe and Sapele federal constituency told newsmen at a press conference in her campaign office on Saturday 19th January, 2019; that Senator Agege have been saying unprintable things about her, especially during electioneering campaigns.

She noted that instead of engaging the people on issues based campaign which has been the hallmark of her ongoing electioneering campaign, Senator Agege adopted character assassination, derogatory statements and use of black propaganda to describe her person in a bid to launder his battered image occasioned by acute legislative rascality which led to his suspension by the Senate of the federal republic of Nigeria.

“I am a responsible politician and a highly resourceful federal lawmaker whose pedigree and integrity remains intact; earned through quality representation, proactive legislative advocacy and charming charisma, as reflected in the discharge of my constitutional responsibilities to constituents and our dear country, Nigeria.

“As a modern and civilized representative of the people, I believe strongly in civil engagements, warm interface and issues based campaign wherein contents of manifesto are presented and explained to eligible voters without use of derogatory statements on fellow citizens and political rivals.

“But what we have seen in the ongoing campaign is that Senator Agege deliberately decided to deploy crude propaganda, half truth and character assassination as the focal point of his re-election bid, a development capable of igniting violence and insecurity in Delta Central.

“I am a very peaceful individual and my teeming supporters and party faithfuls have been conducting themselves peacefully; and it is therefore unacceptable for Senator Agege, to adopt politics of bitterness, character deflation and misinformation in the ongoing electioneering campaigns.

“The repeated threats to my life through telephone calls, harassment and intimidation is worrisome which is why I am appealing to the new Inspector General of Police, Mr. Adamu Muhammed, to use his good office to assign reasonable numbers of his men to protect me.

“Of a truth, I have become extremely vulnerable to my major rival and other political detractors. It is the duty of the Nigerian Police to protect me which is why i decided to invite you, gentlemen of the Press so as to inform the public and the IGP about my predicament and for adequate police protection.

“It will interest you to know that while Senator Agege is adequately secured and protected with thirteen (13) trucks of policemen and police armoured carrier, no police man was assigned to me even though I applied for adequate security and police protection for my campaigns through Uvwie Local Government Council Chairman and Uvwie PDP Chairman, respectively.

“I wish to once again appeal to the new IGP, a top class professional officer, to do the needful by directing the appropriate officers to draft security operates to protect me, to avoid being untimely killed by criminals who daily threaten my life.

“I also urge the IGP to redeploy the Police Commissioner in Delta State, for exhibiting partiality in the discharge of his duties; and especially for identifying strongly with my major rival, Senator Agege, without a corresponding cordiality and police protection extended to me, a strong indication that he has been compromised,” Oboro added.
