Folarin Balogun Earns First England U-21 Call-Up

Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun has been handed a first call-up to the England U21s squad as new manager Lee Carsley named his maiden Young Lions selection.

The England youngsters face Romania in a friendly next month before hosting Kosovo at Stadium MK as they begin their qualifying run for the 2023 European Championship.

Balogun is joined in the squad by Arsenal team-mate Emile Smith-Rowe while Tyreece John-Jules, on loan at Blackpool from the Gunners, also earns a first call-up.

There are a number of ex-Chelsea faces in there, with 18-year-old Tino Livramento included after a flying start to the season at Southampton. Marc Guehi, who joined Crystal Palace for £18million this summer, is also in the group as is Conor Gallagher, on loan at Palace from Chelsea.

There is no place for Callum Hudson-Odoi, while Mason Greenwood is also not in there despite having been left out of Gareth Southgate’s senior squad.
