Frame up: Kwara Reps back Saraki against IG of police By Bakare Majeed

OrderPaperToday – Members of the House of Representatives from Kwara State have waded in on the side of the President of Senate, Bukola Saraki in his face off with the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris.

It would be recalled that the Saraki during plenary on Wednesday raised alarm over an alleged plot to frame him for sponsoring cultist.

The caucus in a statement signed Rasak Atunwa (APC, Kwara) on behalf of the entire caucus on Thursday, noted that the members are concerned about the revelation made by the Senate President.

He said that the caucus found the response of the IGP on the movement of suspected cultists from the state police command in Ilorin to force headquarters in Abuja to be unconvincing, adding that as stakeholders who are familiar with the situation on ground, the movement of the suspects is suspicious.

The former Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly gave a brief background of the case of the suspects, and queried the motive behind the transfer of the suspects to Abuja without reference to the court.

Atunwa added that the Senate President, during his time as a governor signed into law the anti-cultist law, and warned the IG not to engage in misconduct to frame an innocent man.

He therefore warned that, “the Police should not engage in improper conduct with the aim of falsely incriminating innocent people. We are not unmindful of the recent rift between the Senate and the IGP. Any attempt by the Police to falsely incriminate the Senate President in order to settle scores will be reprehensible conduct which would be resisted by all legal and lawful means.

“The Inspector General of Police should stop playing politics with law enforcement work. He needs to work with all stakeholders to succeed and therefore should stop encouraging the “We” versus “Them” campaign now going on across the country about police duties and activities.”
