According to a report by Daily Post, the Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has refuted the allegation that a policeman attached to Femi Gbajabiamila killed a newspaper vendor in Abuja.
The incident occurred within the Three Arm Zone on Thursday when the House of Representatives Speaker’s convoy was on the move.
Gbajabiamila has confirmed the death, disclosing that the officer who fired the fatal shot has been suspended.
In a statement sent to DAILY POST on Friday, ASP Mariam Yusuf, Public Relations Officer, FCT Command, clarified that the security agent was not a police operative.
“Contrary to the misleading information, preliminary investigation into the unfortunate incident reveals that the security aide who shot at the vendor is not a member of the Nigeria Police Force.”
Yusuf added that the Commissioner of Police in FCT, Bala Ciroma has ordered an investigation into the incident.
The spokesperson commiserated with family and friends of the deceased.
The statement assured that the police will be lucid in its investigation and ensure the findings are made public.
