After defeating the Bulgarian 6-3 7-6 (7-4), the Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor will face the British number two in the championship match.
He becomes the first British player since Andy Murray in 2006 to go to the Washington final.
In addition to the ATP 250 championship he won in Melbourne in 2021, the 33-year-old hopes to add a second career victory.
After playing twice on Friday—beating Russia’s Alexander Shevchenko after weather postponed their match on Thursday—and eliminating home favorite and second-seeded Frances Tiafoe, Evans admitted that he felt exhausted in the semi-final.
In his on-court interview, Evans said, “It was so hard putting in such a big effort after yesterday.””It was crucial for me to not falter and perform poorly when I returned today. That is essentially what has occurred over the past few months.
Evans only had nine winners compared to Dmitrov’s 24, but the aggressive world number 20 was undone by his 30 unforced mistakes.
After losing his early matches at Queen’s Club, Wimbledon, and the Atlanta Open, the ninth seed has improved this week.
The 12th seed Griekspoor, who is vying for his third championship of the year, overcame a set deficit to defeat American top seed Taylor Fritz 3-6 6-3 6-2, marking his first victory over a member of the top 10.
In the Mifel Tennis Open final in Mexico, world number five Stefanos Tsitsipas defeated Alex de Minaur to win his first championship in 14 months.
To win his 10th career title and his first since winning the Mallorca Open in June 2022, Tsitsipas defeated Australia’s De Minaur 6-3, 6-4.
The 24-year-old Greek top seed won the first set easily and seized the lead early in the second before the 19th-ranked De Minaur tied the score in the sixth game.
Tsitispas, though, broke once more to take the lead at 5-4 and served out the match in the ensuing game.
