Gerard Pique was caught making an interesting gesture following Lionel Messi’s disallowed goal for Barcelona vs Villarreal last night.

The Catalan giants ran out 4-1 winners at El Madrigal as they look to keep pace with La Liga leaders Real Madrid.

Messi was denied his chance to get on the scoresheet in the second-half following a VAR review – which Pique didn’t agree with.

The Spaniard looked to draw a line and type on an imaginary keyboard as the VAR debate in Spain rages on.

Following the game, he refused to be drawn into discussing his gesture and claimed to not remember doing it.

“I don’t remember,” he stated per Marca.

“During the game, you do things with the adrenaline… I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

It comes after bitter rivals Madrid seal a controversial victory over Athletic Bilbao earlier on Sunday.

‘Los Blancos’ sealed a 1-0 victory though a Sergio Ramos penalty after Marcelo was judged to have been hauled down by VAR.

However, many thought Bilbao deserved their own penalty after Ramos stepped on Raul Garcia’s foot in the area. VAR chose to not interfere.

Following the game, Bilbao captain Iker Muniain was quick to claim some teams get preferential treatment from VAR.

“Raul Garcia’s been stamped on and they haven’t even revised it, that’s the difference,” he fumed per Sport.

“We’ve seen the theme in these weeks since the restart, depending on which teams it is, some decisions are given. Everyone can draw their own conclusions.”

Pique has also made similar claims since football’s restart, but Ramos has defiantly defended his team and stated there’s only controversy now his side are league leaders.

“There’s a lot of noise in the media because we’re leaders again,” he said last month.

“They didn’t talk so much before. They talk about VAR, but I don’t think anyone has an advantage over the season.”

The 34-year-old added: “We don’t pay attention to this noise. I don’t think they [the referees] take any predetermined decisions. It seems like we should be thanking the refs for being leaders! People shouldn’t be imagining things.

“We’ve been working hard and since the lockdown, we’ve been united, and we deserve to be where we are.”
