How Brave Police Inspector Shot 2 Gunmen Dead In His Imo Residence

Some gunmen who are yet to be identified have invaded the home of a Police Inspector in Imo State.

The gunmen who invaded the home of the police officer name (withheld) in Orogwe, Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo in the early hours of Thursday met the unexpected: two of them were shot dead by their target.

Orogwe is the same community where gunmen killed seven people and left six others critically injured last Monday.

But in the incident of Thursday, the gunmen had jumped into the officer’s apartment, scaling the fence into his compound at Aforukwu community of Orogwe and gained entrance into the his flat by destroying the iron burglary protector and front door.

But the Inspector had positioned himself in anticipation and had placed himself himself at a vantage position to engage them in gun duel. In the ensuing gun battle, two of the bandits were shot dead by the brave police officer, while others escaped.

“The hoodlums who were stunned and confused by the staccato sound emanating from the rifle of the officer, took to their heels, scampering for safety and were given a hot chase and in the process, one of them was neutralized,” spokesperson of Imo Police Command, CSP Micheal Abattam, said in a statement while narrating the incident.

Policemen who mobilized and rushed to the scene recovered another corpse, two locally made pistols and an Identity Card were recovered after combing of surrounding bushes.

Abattam statement partly reads: “On 04/8/2022 at about 0222hrs, armed bandits in their numbers, invaded the house of a Police Inspector attached to one of the formations in the command and jumped the perimeter wall into the compound at Aforukwu, Orogwe in Owerri West Local Government Area.

“They destroyed the iron burglary protector and front door, entered inside the flat, but were taken by surprise as the police inspector who professionally placed himself at a vantage position, engaged the bandits in an aggressive gun duel.

“The hoodlums who were stunned and confused by the staccato sound emanating from the rifle of the officer, took to their heels, scampering for safety and were given a hot chase and in the process, one of them was neutralized,” Abattam stated.

He said the officer alerted Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ogbaku Division, who mobilized and rushed to the scene and positioned themselves strategically and professionally, combed the surrounding bushes where another corpse, two locally made pistols and an Identity Card were recovered.

He noted that the recovered identity card belongs to one of the neutralized bandits Chukwuemezie Chukwu, a native of Atta in Ikeduru Local Government Area.
