The federal government has been accused of having a sinister motivie in its rush to declare state of emergency in Anambra.

This comes as Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan yesterday questioned the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami over the threat to declare a state of emergency in Anambra State.

Omokri wondered why Malami would threaten to declare a state of emergency in Anambra and not in Kaduna, Borno, Yobe, Zamfara, and Niger States where he claimed Boko Haram controls 500 communities.

Recall that we had reported on Wednesday that the Federal Government had threatened to declare a ‘state-of-emergency’ in Anambra State over the lingering insecurity situation in the State.

Malami disclosed this after the Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting in Abuja.

He said that the Nigerian government is determined to ensure a hitch-free election in Anambra.

“So, what I am saying in essence, no possibility is out ruled by government in terms of ensuring the sanctity of our democratic order, in terms of ensuring that our elections in Anambra hold.

“And you cannot rule out the possibility of declaration of state of emergency where it’s established, in essence, that there is a failure on the part of the state government to ensure the sanctity of security of lives, properties and democratic order,” he said.

Reacting to the development, Omokri in a tweet via his Twitter handle, said that Malami’s threat may be the spark that ignites what he can’t put out.

He tweeted, “Abubakar Malami’s threat to declare a state of emergency in Anambra may very well be the spark that ignites what he can’t put out.

“How can you leave Borno, Yobe, Kaduna, Zamfara and Niger (where Boko Haram controls 500 communities) and declare an emergency in Anambra?”
