There is so much to look forward to in the world of film and TV across 2019, but arguably the most anticipated event of them all is the final season of HBO’s mammoth hit, Game of Thrones. The series could well be regarded as the biggest TV show of all time, not just in terms of sheer popularity but also the movie-like scale it has adopted through the years.
It was recently confirmed that the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones will begin on April 14th, with the accompanying trailer leading to plenty of speculation about what the last six feature-length episodes of the series will have in store for fan-favourite characters including Jon Snow and Arya Stark.
With the series finally concluding, it would be understandable if some fans are dreading the moment when the epic story ultimately comes to an end. However, there is plenty to suggest that the legacy of the show is set to live on in a range of ways once it has drawn to a close.
A multimedia phenomenon
One obvious way that the series will live on will be through a new prequel which is being made by HBO. Featuring an all-new cast including Naomi Watts, the show is set to examine Westeros’s history thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones and look at its ‘descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour’. Game of Thrones creator George RR Martin and Jane Goldman are the minds behind the new series.
There is more to the world of Game of Thrones than just TV of course, with the show also developing a presence in gaming. A range of titles have been released based on the universe, including an episodic graphic adventure by Telltale. However, perhaps more remarkably the series has a place in iGaming too.
