Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has dismissed concerns Paul Pogba has to be played out of position to accommodate Bruno Fernandes and hopes the Manchester United star will stay at Old Trafford.
Speculation about Pogba’s future has died down in the wake of Fernandes’ emergence at the club, but there is still talk the Frenchman could force an exit. Gary Neville complained about Pogba playing a deeper role in his first start alongside Fernandes in midfield in the win over Sheffield United, but Solskjaer insists the duo will rotate.
‘The two can play well together and that is exciting,’ he said.
‘There will be rotations and times when Paul will play up with Bruno sometimes deeper, sometimes he will play in a diamond.
‘But of course it has been encouraging to see them together but its also encouraging to see how Nemanja Matic, Scott McTominay and Fred are making it difficult for me to leave them out which is good for me as a coach.’betpayads
Pogba was vocal about his desire to leave United, but suffered with injuries throughout the season.
The World Cup winner’s start against Sheffield United was his first since September and Solskjaer says he has been impressed with Pogba’s attitude. But the United boss warned his star player he didn’t want to look back on his career with regrets.
‘Paul knows he’s a special talent and he doesn’t want to in five or ten years’ time look back and think I didn’t make the most of it,’ said the Norwegian.
‘He is a already a World Cup winner, he has won things with Juventus and us so I’m not surprised by his enthusiasm and dedication to us. ‘We are looking to keep Paul here and we are looking to keep the best players here anyway.’
