The men of the Nigeria Police Force on Thursday said its officers killed a suspected member of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN) in Imo State, according to SaharaReporters.

The state police command said the incident occurred during a gun battle at Umuchoke in the Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of the state.

According to a statement signed by the state police public relations officer, CSP Michael Abattam, Police Public Relations Officer, the suspected IPOB/ESN member had been wanted for some time for his alleged involvement in the burning of police stations and killing of officers.

Identified as Uchenna Chukwu 34, the police said one locally made double barrelled pistol with two expended cartridges, two live cartridges and some charms tied around his waist for spiritual fortification against bullets were recovered from him.

The command said it mobilised its men and stormed Chukwu’s shop but on sighting policemen, he and some others attacked the police with machetes.

“While this was on, the already alerted members came in their number and engaged the police operatives in a gun duel but were overwhelmed by the superior fire power of the police and in the process, one of them was neutralised while others escaped with bullet wounds into hiding,” the police said.

The police urged the public to report to them if they sight anyone with gunshot wounds.
