Ivory Coast Triumphs Over Nigeria with a 2-1 Victory

Despite being three-time continental champions, Nigeria, who had maintained an unbeaten record at the finals, suffered a setback against Ivory Coast, having previously defeated them 1-0 in the group stage. However, the Super Eagles struggled to assert dominance in the match after initially adopting a defensive approach.

The ball sailed across the goal and evaded the desperate dive of Ivory Coast’s goalkeeper Yahia Fofana.

After halftime, Ivory Coast emerged with renewed determination, with Adingra showcasing his agility and skill on the left side.

A dangerous low delivery from the Brighton winger was deflected away by Nwabali, and Calvin Bassey intervened with a crucial block to deny an equalizer after Max Gradel seized the loose ball.

Nwabali then had to stretch to his right to divert a long-range attempt from Kossounou wide, and Ivory Coast capitalized on the subsequent corner, exploiting a defensive lapse as Kessie found the net.

Although the Super Eagles had an opportunity to regain the lead when Troost-Ekong’s header from Ademola Lookman’s free-kick went wide, the decisive moment arrived with a brilliant finish from Haller. The Borussia Dortmund player expertly redirected Adingra’s cross with his right leg, leaving Nwabali helpless.
