Judging By Current Form, Wizkid vs Davido, Who’s Had A Better Year So Far?

2018 has been a good for Nigerian music. Everyone has shone brightly through music in 2018 and not only music, endorsement deals, foreign waves and personal achievements have been inculcated into the mind blowing successes our artistes have had in recent months.

For Davido and Wizkid, it’s like the same old circle. They release their songs, get featured on foreign songs, some international waves also, PR stunts that further make them stay atop the trending news, you just wake up to see these guys trending every week.

It’s like the Music Industry is evolved around them. This year, it has been Wizkid, Davido and others. However, both will always be compared.

It’s an illusion that has been impressed on the media, created by the fans of both parties who agree and disagree on who’s the best.

So we ask who actually has done better this year? Let’s go down the lane…

Hit Songs

This year, Davido and Wizkid have been turning the whole nation up with several hit songs.

For Davido especially, Assurance and Nwa Baby are his only hit songs. Record label hits like Mind, Ajeand Aza didn’t really make a lot of impact on the music space and hence were slept on by the music populace.

Wizkid on the other end has and a better year so far. Starting the year strongly with Nowo, a DJ Spinall record, he further backed it up with Soco that grew on us and is still reigning up till now.

Fake Love is a certified hit also, coupled with his recent song, Fever and are we going to forget about the fire collaborations Wizkid had in 2018?

Bad Energy with Skepta was a banger too also with Olamide’s Kana. Overall, Wizkid had a nice run with hits this year.

International Success

Last year, Wizkid was all about international fame and stardom. He was always in the US with his squad.

However, this year, you would observe Davido has been the selected one for international concerts. Jay Z’s Made In America, J Cole’s Dreamville Festival, and a couple of international concerts had Davido’s name on them.

However, Wizkid got a couple of international stuff that happened also. He got signed to Nike, became the first Artiste in the World to have his own jersey, got endorsement deals with Ciroc and Dolce and Gabbana also.

Have we forgotten Davido won the BET Award for Best International Act and he’s also being nominated for Best African Act at The MTV EMA Awards So, who won?

Both have had a good year in the international scene, so this is a Draw.

Record Label Success

This year has been a back to basics mantra for Wizkid. He’s recognized that international fame might be temporary and he has to reconnect with his Day one fans. His people back year.

He’s also paid more attention to his dying label, he signed Terri who gave us a hit with “Bia” has affiliates Ceeza Milli and Spotless and together they created Soco.

Davido this year has thrived on his record label energy for some of the success he has enjoyed this year. Everyone on the record label is growing and becoming an Enigma on their own.

Mayorkun is becoming a superstar on his own right, Peruzzi is turning into a mini Davido and Dremoalso released one of the best projects this year.

At the moment, DMW is the record label of the year and it’s due to how Davido has affected the label with his artistry and positive vibes.

His own success has impacted the lives of others on the label. Numbers Don’t Lie According to Spotify, Wizkid is the most streamed African artiste and he’s the 77th most streamed artiste in the World and the 303rd best selling artiste on iTunes in the World.

Streams on YouTube slightly favour Davido a little but if we were to compare Davido and Wizkid on their singles this year, Wizkid (Soco+Fever) = 32 Million Views , Davido (Assurance+Aza+Nwa Baby) = 32 Million Views.

Wizkid had a lot of foreign songs released of recent that are doing well on iTunes and Spotify charts.

Although Davido trumps Wizkid on social media reach, Wizkid more than crushes it on streaming and viewing numbers. Davido wins this one.

However, it’s up to the fans, music critics to determine who had a better year. The award organizers also have a say in this also.
