IgbereTV gathered that trouble started when an argument ensued between the Keke driver and a Hausa woman over payment.

According to Facebook user, Aluma Jona Enyi, the Hausa woman reported the matter to her kinsmen, who stormed the area and in the process, one of them stabbed the Keke driver with a knife. The victim was rushed to the hospital where he is curently receiving treatment.

However, protest erupted when the news of the stabbing filtered in. Angry Keke riders went on rampage, destroying periishable goods belonging to Hausa traders.

Aluma Jona Enyi wrote on Facebook:

“There was a commotion at barracks junction, Nsukka some hours ago. An Hausa woman selling perishable goods at barracks junction had little misunderstanding with keke rider that conveyed her and her goods to barracks junction. The keke rider insisted that she pays him a certain amount of money for conveying her from market to barracks junction. But the Hausa woman refused. After some dragging and pushing, the woman went and reported the case to her Hausa brothers. The brothers came to defend their sister, and one of them stabbed the keke rider. The keke rider was rushed to Bishop shanahan hospital Nsukka, where he is currently receiving treatment. Keke riders associations went on rampage seeking for revenge. No life was lost. They only destroyed some perishable goods, and blocked road for some minutes. They were stopped from destroying properties belonging to Hausa people or even attacking Hausa people. Normalcy has returned to the scene.
Don’t panic. There is no tribal conflict at Nsukka. Nsukka people are peace loving people.
