Late Samuel Okwaraji’s Mother Dies In Enugu Barely A Month After Receiving Sports Minister

The mother of late Super Eagles midfielder Samuel Okwaraji has died at 83 in Enugubarely a month after receiving Sports Minister Sunday Dare.

The announcement was made on Sunday, June 7, by her son Patrick and was also confirmed by Ekwem Bizmark who claims she was his aunt.

The deceased is a devout Christian and retired school teacher recently received the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, who visited her with some gift items from the government.

Mrs Janet died at her Abakpa Nike Enugu home and though, no date has been fixed for the burial, a letter had been to the Minister and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to inform them on the development.

Recall that her late son Samuel Okwaraji who played for Super Eagles collapsed and died of congestive heart failure in the 77th minute of a World Cup qualification match against Angola at the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos on August 12, 1989 at the age of 25.

The late footballer was born on May 19, 1964 in Orlu, Imo state, he was a qualified lawyer who had a Masters in International Law from the University of Rome, Italy.
