Lawmaker ‘Hires Thugs’ To Attack Community For Asking Questions About Constituency Projects (Photos)

Alhassan Ado Garba, the member representing Tudun-Wada/Doguwa Constituency of Kano State at the House of Representatives, has allegedly hired thugs to vandalise properties of his constituents for questioning how he spent the allowance allocated to them for projects, SaharaReporters reports.
The development was uncovered by Tracka, a community of active citizens dedicated to tracking the implementation of government projects in their community to ensure service delivery.

Tracka had worked with some members of the community, led by Sule Yaro, to enlighten members of Alhassan’s Constituency on holding their political representatives accountable.
The lawmaker was said to have stormed the community in the company of thugs, who unleashed mayhem, leaving burnt cars and houses in their wake.

According to residents of Tudun-Wada/Doguwa who spoke to SaharaReporters, Alhassan brought in thugs into the community when he came home for Sallah.

“We saw some thugs come with Hon. Alhassan when he came for Sallah. We didn’t know what he wanted to do or why he brought them into the community until they attacked us,” a resident said.

An official of Tracka, who spoke to SaharaReporters, said: “On Monday, I was hinted by some people that the lawmaker came with thugs and was looking for the team because of the projects monitored.

“He was angry and was telling people that the team and Tracka want to ruin his political career.”

While giving an account of what transpired, Yaro, whose house and son’s motorcycle was burnt, said the tracking team had to leave their community for fear of being killed. He also alleged that Alhassan’s thugs were planning to launch another attack targeted at his family. He said: “My vehicle and my son’s motorcycle were burnt. All together, about nine vehicles were destroyed. Houses were also not spared.

“I ran away from my community with my family after I was advised by community members that he (Hon. Alhassan) is after my life.”

Mohammed Hussein Umar, another member of the tracking team, who is also a resident of the community, condemned the act by Alhassan, stating that when the thugs entered his house, they broke his furniture and every other thing they could lay their hands on.

He said: “The thugs entered houses, broke and damaged anything they saw. All together, not less than seven cars were damaged in the attack.”

Attempts to reach Alhassan were futile, as calls to his mobile number did not connect. He had also failed to respond to a text message sent to him at the time of filing this report.

Alhassan, 53, is a graduate of Mass Communication from Bayero University, Kano.
