Liam Gallagher shared his anger at the leaked design for Manchester City’s 2020-2021 third kit by calling for the responsible Puma staff to be ‘put on the next flight to Wuhan’.

The former Oasis frontman and City fan made the claim in a since deleted tweet and suggested anyone who buys the unique shirt should be on the next flight after them.

The kit, which was leaked by FootyHeadlines, features a paisley pattern with a ‘Whisper White’ & ‘Peacoat’ colour scheme which is meant to be a nod to Manchester’s indie music scene from the 1990s.

But, ironically, the singer did not approve despite emerging from that musical era.

Some believe the shirt may become a classic in later years but the majority of supporters are not impressed and neither was Gallagher.

He tweeted: ‘Who ever is responsible for that new Man City kit needs putting on the nxt flight to WUHAN and who ever buys it needs to be on the 1 after c’mon you should f****** know LG x’.

Wuhan is the Chinese city where the coronavirus outbreak is alleged to have began.

Other supporters shared their displeasure at the kit on Twitter, with one claiming he didn’t want to look like former Top Gear presenter James May.

One wrote: ‘On a serious note why does pumafootball think it’s a good idea to have kits looking like broken glass and cells under a microscope? Getting less people to buy your shirts is a terrible business model.’

Another added: ‘It could eventually make a half decent tea towel? Nah, on second thoughts we’ll let the dishes stand on the drainer. Puma’s designers must think the more outrageous, and out of left field, the better, when it comes to ManCity – they’d do well to have a rethink’.

Gallagher has been involved in the fashion world himself, launching his own Pretty Green label in 2009, before selling up to JD Sports after it went into administration last year.

But the singer clearly won’t be adding the new City strip to his wardrobe when it goes on sale later this year.

City’s contract with Puma runs until 2029 after they replaced Nike in a deal thought to be worth £650million.
