Lukaku is among the Belgium players who have started their coaching
badges online during the suspension of football to stop the spread of
coronavirus.

Former
Manchester United striker Lukaku, along with the likes of Borussia
Dortmund midfielder Axel Witsel, were scheduled to start the process of
earning the Uefa qualification this week during this week’s
international break, before sport was halted.

But those
in Roberto Martinez’s squad with an eye on coaching in the future have
started online elements of the course during the shutdown to cope with
the Covid-19 pandemic.

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De
Bruyne was among the players to register an interest when offered the
chance to study for the UEFA ‘A’ and ‘B’ diplomas.

He has
previously spoken about the opportunity to start his badges to keep his
options open when he eventually retires. “I am not yet playing with the
idea of becoming a trainer. I’m still too young for that. But if I want
to stay in football later, this is the minimum,” said De Bruyne.

It
is understood that Vincent Kompany’s transition from player to
player-coach has been an influence in Belgium players taking up the
chance to study for their badges.

The
former Manchester City captain won the Premier League title last season
before heading back to Anderlecht to take up his new role.

While Witsel is 31, Martinez’s squad is relatively young with the likes of Lukaku, 26, looking at a future in coaching.

Belgium
had friendlies against Portugal and Switzerland lined up this month
before coronavirus put sport on hold and postponed the European
Championship for a year.

Lukaku has been in Italy, where the virus has had a huge impact and has stopped Serie A in his first season at Inter Milan.
