Manchester City showed class and tenacity as they hammered newly crowned Premier League champions 4-0 at the Etihad on Thursday night.

It was a masterful performance by the Cityzens as goals from Kevin de Bruyne, Phil Foden and Raheem Sterling ensured a comprehensive victory on a day Pep Guardiola’s men gave the Reds a Guard of Honour.

Foden replacement for David Silva

Foden has grown alot from the youngster that won the Most Valuable Player at the FIFA U-17 World Cup where he helped England win the competition.

He has forced his way into reckoning and tipped as the successor to David Silva who leaves Man City at the end of the current season.

Foden scored against Liverpool after a quick one-two with Bernando Silva and finished with his weaker right foot and that was reassuring for manager, Pep Guardiola.

De Bruyne, the master

The Belgian is unplayable in midfield and majestically controls the tempo of the game. He gave Liverpool midfielders so much to think about and captain Jordan Henderson was no match for his game management prowess.

Guardiola hungry again

Pep Guardiola might have lost the Premier League with seven matches to the end of the season and 23 points but against Liverpool on Thursday night he showed clearly that he is hungry again and ready to change the narrative next season.

He put forward a very strong team where he could’ve rested some players, knowing they are safe in second position. He got his players fired up and they blew Liverpool away in the first half. This will make for an interesting 2020/21 season.

City don’t need to spend big

Manchester City squad are almost good to go for next season even if they are losing the services of David Silva and Leroy Sane. The Cityzens will only worry about getting a new center back and possibly a new no. 9 because of the persistent injuries to Sergio Aguero.

Mane, Firmino and Salah need back up

The Liverpool trio have carried the team for two consecutive seasons and played a lot of matches which may lead to burnout next season if they are not properly rotated.

Jurgen Klopp needs to start making plans for quality backups for Saido Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah. It’s a shame, Adam Lallana is injury prone, Shaqiri hasn’t come to the party since he joined the club and Origi is still below the required quality to lead the team. Which has left a lot of fans puzzled as to why Klopp didn’t make any attempt to sign Timo Werner before he joined Chelsea and Liverpool are not interested in landing the services of Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.

Mane is already linked with a move to Real Madrid and if he leaves, it will leave a huge whole in Klopp’s team for next season. So, the larger the squad with quality players, the better for Liverpool, who won their first premier league title since 30years.
