Manchester United’s new superstar signing, Edinson Cavani has revealed how joining the club stopped him from quitting football following a battle with the deadly Covid-19.
The 33-year-old Uruguayan forward signed a one-year deal with an option for a second for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Red Devils after ending his stint with French Champions Paris Saint Geman.
“We did a test after coming back to Spain from holiday,” Cavani told Argentinian radio programme 2 de Punta. “It was negative, but we did it again as my girlfriend had symptoms.” This time it came back positive, and the effects took their toll. “The truth is that we were suffering, mainly from the fear it gave us,” Cavani said. “Luckily now we are fine.”
He continues: “At that time, I wasn’t thinking about football, I was just thinking about family, and how it was to be at home [in Uruguay], with everyone near,” the 33 year old said.
“Everything that’s going on has resulted in so much uncertainty, because no one knows what the solution will be.” In the end, Cavani recovered well and when he saw domestic leagues beginning again, started thinking once again about football, which led to his arrival in Manchester. “I wanted to have a team,” he said. “And I’m glad that I made the decision I did. Now I just want to pull on the shirt.”
