It’s been made illegal to wear a Paris Saint-Germain shirt in public in the city of Marseille on Sunday, the day of the Champions League final.

PSG are vying to become the second ever French side to win the Champions League after Marseille in 1993 and the rivalry between the two clubs is incredibly bitter.

So much so, that if you’re a PSG fan living in Marseille’s city centre, you are genuinely forbidden from wearing the club’s colours out and about between 3pm local time on Sunday afternoon right through to 3am on Monday.

The final between PSG and Bayern Munich takes place behind-closed-doors at 9pm local time in France and according to Le Parisien, the ban has been implemented by the Bouches-du-Rhône police force in a bid to stop trouble from spilling out on the streets.

The ruling includes any colours in general, which means wearing a PSG scarf is also prohibited when Sunday rolls around. It comes after reports of disturbances at the Vieux Port on Tuesday as PSG beat RB Leipzig in the semi-final.

Police say there were gatherings of more than 250 people, with 100 Marseille fans congregating and chanting anti-PSG songs while they let off pyrotechnics.

It’s said two PSG supporters were assaulted – with one man arrested for attacking someone wearing a PSG shirt and one told to remove their jersey as per La Provence.

Some local pubs/bars were also forced to stop showing the game as tempers flared halfway through the fixture.

Irrespective of Sunday’s result, any PSG fan who happens to live in Marseille should probably lay low for their own safety.
