La Liga President Javier Tebas has insisted that Barcelona Star Lionel Messi has done more for the league than anyone else, even Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese star left Real Madrid in the summer and signed for Juventus in a £88m deal.

Ronaldo scored a stunning 311 goals in 292 La Liga appearances for Los Blancos.

He also won two titles and two Copa Del Rey trophies while in Spain.

However, La Liga President Javier Tebas has forgotten about Ronaldo already, saying Lionel Messi has done more for the league than anyone else.

“It would depend on Leo Messi but I’d love to have a LaLiga award in his name,” Tebas explained.

“No one has brought more to La Liga than him and if he finishes his career in Spain, or most of it, I don’t believe anyone has contributed more to the competition.”

The 56-year-old then hit out at Ronaldo while praising the Barcelona star.

“The fact Cristiano Ronaldo has gone to Serie A means he’s even more important,” he added.

Lionel Messi returned to football over the weekend after his arm injury but couldn’t stop Barcelona from a 4-2 defeat at home to Real Betis.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid defeated Celta Vigo 4-2 on Sunday and are now just four points behind Barcelona but remain in the sixth position.
