Messi Set Another La Liga Record Despite Losing The Title To Real Madrid

Barcelona attacker Lionel Messi was a standout player in the just concluded La Liga season and despite not winning the La Liga he managed to put his name in the record books once again.

Messi made history in their last match against Alves, Barcelona won the game with a 5-0 scoreline with the Argentine maestro scoring a brace and providing an assist, with the feat he has now won seven Pichichi trophy and he becomes the first player to win the award on seven occasions.

Messi also broke the record of assists in the Spanish top division with a record of 21 assists in the just-concluded season.

As noted by Barcelona’s official Twitter account below, this is the first time a player has won the prize on seven occasions…

This is a quite stunning record set by Messi, who has also been the top scorer in Spain in 2009/10, 2011/12, 2012/13, 2016/17, 2017/18, 2018/19 and now this season.

Messi has dominated the award in the last decade, though former Real Madrid attacker Cristiano Ronaldo provided some competition having won it on three occasions it was the Barcelona star that came out on top with Luis Suarez the only other player to win it since 2010.

This time Messi beat Real Madrid attacker Karim Benzema to the award having scored 25 goals while the French attacker scored 21 goals to help Real Madrid win the title for the 34th time in their history.
