Nigerian U23 star Tom Dele-Bashiru set for surgery for anterior cruciate ligament injury later this week.

The 21-year-old midfielder damaged an anterior cruciate ligament during Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Reading in his first league start for the Hornets.

Dele-Bashiru told the club official website: “I’m obviously disappointed to be injured but my recovery starts now, and I’ll be working hard to come back stronger and to get back as soon as possible to help the team, hopefully towards the end of the season,”

“When I went down the first time, I could feel something, but I didn’t think it was bad and I felt okay to carry on. The second time I knew it was bad.”

Dele-Bashiru, who has made five appearances for Watford in all competitions since he made his debut off the bench in a Carabao Cup win against Coventry in August 2019 after joining from Manchester City the previous month.
