Nigerians React As INEC Postpones The 2019 Presidential Elections

While men slept, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) decided to postpone the 2019 Presidential elections, an election that took the body four years to prepare for.

As at yesterday, the 15th of February, all conversations across various platforms were politically influenced. Nigerians in the Diaspora were not left out as some flew in to their various locations to vote for who will become the next president of the Federal Republic. International observers, as well as other countries, had pledged their support to ensure that the elections are free and fair. Various statistics and articles had also strategically predicted who had a fair chance to win the elections.

However, INEC’s chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu decided to slap Nigerians in the face with an announcement by 2:54 am citing “identified challenges” as its problem.

INEC Press statement

Disappointed Nigerians have voiced their opinion on the matter.

Dr Joe Abah- When our uncaring airlines postpone our flights & just tell us it’s for “operational reasons”, they at least pretend to “regret any inconveniences this may cause.” INEC couldn’t even be bothered to pretend that it regrets any inconveniences caused to us. Poor! #NigeeiaDecides2019

Saadah M (@MTuity1)- So who will resign? Who will be fired? Who will be held responsible for this epic Embarassment to the country. We have international observers here already. We have families who travelled since thurs. Some borrowed money…this must not just go quietly as usual.

The Morris Monye Factor (@monye_morris)- It is not enough for the INEC chairman to postpone elections, he must explain to Nigerians why?
“Oh not enough ballot boxes, low PVC collection” He must give reasons.. That been said we demand his immediate resignation. I don’t think he is competent enough to collate results

Jubril A. Gawat @Mr_JAGs- Immediately the postponement became official, Policemen watching corpers in a part of Lagos just shouted: “Dem don postpone elections o, make una dey go house”… and drove off leaving the vulnerable corpers more vulnerable … INEC no try

INEC still postponed election after all these stress by corps members

Osikhena Dirisu (@Osi_Suave)- Inec had 4 years plus a budget of 186billion. Its ridiculous to say the least that you are postponing an election a few hours before it is scheduled to start Nigeria. We need to do better.

Abdool Moh- So INEC had to make sure that those travelling to vote have reached their various destinations before they released the most idiotic news. This is Terribly Unfair to Nigerians.

However, some opine that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had done same in 2015 due to the threat posed by Boko Haram. Therefore, the reaction of the citizens to this news should not be outrage.
