The Confederation of African Football have officially postponed the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations originally meant to take place between January and February.

The continent’s flagship tournament will now take place same period but now in 2022.

The CAF Executive Committee took this decision and a couple more during their meeting held via zoom conferencing on Tuesday.

With just two of the six qualifying rounds played, CAF deemed it unrealistic given the current situation to have the remaining qualification phase and have the biennial tournament in January next year.

Three-time champions Nigeria are hoping to add one more feather to their crown after finishing third at the last edition in Egypt.

The Nigeria Football Federation has expressly told the Super Eagles coach to deliver a fourth AFCON title in Cameroon or risk losing his job.

While CAF postponed the AFCON for men, the soccer ruling body announced the outright cancelation of the 2020 African Women Cup of Nations (AWCON).

CAF however announced the continent’s Women’s Champions League will take off in 2021.

Meanwhile, the African Nations Championship (CHAN) meant to have taken place earlier in 2020 has been moved to next year.

The CHAN tournament is expressly meant for players plying their trade in their country’s respective domestic league.
