Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo says Nigeria will keep its climate commitments.

He gave the assurance at a meeting with World Bank Managing Director, Development Policy and Partnerships, Mari Pangestu and Country Director, Shubham Chaudhuri.

The VP, also on Friday, interacted with officials of the International Monetary Fund on the IMF Article IV bilateral consultations.

At both meetings, Osinbajo stated that Nigeria remains committed to helping to reduce global greenhouse emissions.

On fossil fuel resources, he said the country has issues including distribution and quality of access to energy as well as clean energy.

“The issues are access to energy and education, renewable energy and how to be able to move quickly enough in terms of putting renewable energy in place.”

Osinbajo highlighted funding challenges in developing countries as they respond to climate change, preparation for adaptation and implications of the Paris Agreement.

The agreement comprises a $100 billion per year pledge by wealthier economies to help developing economies respond to climate challenges.

The 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) ended on Friday.

The Global Climate and Health Alliance, a coalition of health professionals, has urged governments to fulfil obligations to 1.5C limit for global heating.
