A tweet on Tuesday by a former Lagos governorship and senatorial candidate Babatunde Gbadamosi appearing to encourage xenophobic attacks on Ugandans in Nigeria has generated controversy online, Igbere TV reports.

“Are there any Ugandans roaming free in Nigeria right now? If so, why?” Mr Gbadamosi wrote.

His tweet followed the arrest and detention of Nigerian musicians – Omah Lay, Tems and another Nigerian Muyiwa Awomiyi – by Ugandan authorities.

They are being accused of flouting COVID-19 rules following their participation in a concert.

Many have been knocked Gbadamosi for the statement, urging him to delete the tweet.

But the former governorship candidate said he was only calling for reciprocity, adding that it is allowed in international relations.
