Real Madrid are interested in signing Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, despite him only moving from Bordeaux in January.
Los Blancos were previously been linked with the 19-year-old around the time of his move to Monaco in the winter, however no bid was ever made by the Spanish giants.
Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has not given up hope, however, as he views Tchouameni as a back-up option of their pursuit of Rennes star Eduardo Camavinga falls through, according to Diario Sport.
Whilst Tchouameni does not have the same star quality that Camavinga possesses, he is the cheaper option of the two – which could come in handy for Zidane as he tries to navigate through the current financial uncertainty surrounding the transfer market.
Camavinga would likely cost Madrid around £53 million this summer, as Rennes are confident they can hold on to their wonderkid for a little longer.
Meanwhile, Tchouameni’s move in January cost the Ligue 1 side just under £16million and with the financial hit that Monaco are predicting they will take, they could let him for for around £13million.
Madrid’s current midfield options of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos are both ageing and Zidane is hopeful he can inject some youth into his squad this summer.
