Reps Speaker mourns flood victims in Lagos

Abbas Tajudeen, Speaker of the House of Representatives, has expressed sorrow over the loss of one person as a result of the flood that hit several areas of Lagos State’s Kosofe Federal Constituency.

Abbas was particularly alarmed that the water had forced more than 2,000 people from their homes.

The Speaker applauded the Chairman of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Kafilat Ogbara, for providing shelter to the displaced, who are from her constituency, in a statement issued by Musa Krishi, the Speaker’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, on Tuesday.

He stated, “I urge the National Emergency Management Agency to immediately provide the necessary interventions for the displaced persons,” while urging the pertinent federal and state authorities to act immediately to prevent the repetition of similar disasters.

In the Ikosi-Isheri LCDA of Lagos State, a school that had been converted into a residential structure with 500 rooms, known as Agboye Estate, Oduntan Street, Ketu, caved last Saturday as a result of hours of rain that befell most of the state.
