Liverpool returned to training at Melwood on Wednesday afternoon for the first time in around two months.

The squad returned in small groups and trained at staggered times during the day in order to make sure social distancing measures were adhered to.

The players will undergo a mini-pre-season in order to get themselves back to match fitness for the remainder of their Premier League campaign, in which they are two wins off being named champions.

To document the return to their training base, footage of the day was released via the club’s YouTube channel.

The season is expected to resume in around a month, giving the players a limited period in which to get rid of any rustiness caused by the last few weeks.

These are the moments you might have missed as Liverpool players including Jordan Henderson, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold met up for the first time in weeks.

Keep protected

Andy Robertson does not appear to be a man who seeks out the sun.

The Scotland captain brought out his spray-on sunscreen to prepare himself for the session, promoting some comments from teammates watching on.

‘Make sure you’ve got this on today, Powelly! (John Powell, the club photographer)’, the left-back could be heard saying.

On the hottest day of the year so far in the UK, that was probably a good idea!

Too many layers

In contrast to Robertson, opposite full-back Alexander-Arnold came out for training wearing a jumper.

Van Dijk was among those who could be heard making comments as the Scouser seemed a little overdressed.

He soon took the extra layer off as the session unfolded.

Lockdown haircuts

Roberto Firmino’s hair was something that caught the eye of some fans, with his trim slightly longer than it was before.

Of course, that is to be expected, with footballers no different to the rest of us – trips to the barbers are off the table for the time being.

Photo opportunities

Virgil van Dijk shouted ‘hey boys’ as he posed for the cameraman who was filming the session.

Meanwhile, Alisson Becker could be seen waving in the same direction.

Others like Henderson and relatively new arrival Takumi Minamino were among those who flashed a smile towards the lense, too.

Keep your distance

This is something that will be alien to the players while they are training, but they will need to keep their distance from one another even in that scenario.

Perhaps the best clip of the day was Salah arcing his run at the last second to avoid being within two metres of manager Klopp.

The Egyptian almost forgot, but took the safety-first approach in the end!
