The highlight is at the mid-point, where NBA All-Star weekend showcases the best of the league’s talent.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and LeBron James hold the highest record for Game selection in the NBA All-Star games. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar had a 19-time record, and LeBron James took history a nudge higher when he became the first player to play 20 consecutive times in the NBA All-Star game. Kyle Korver made the team in 2015 and scored 75 percent of his shots from behind the arc, and you cannot help but drool over the beauty and magic that comes with the NBA All-Star event. It’s been all shades of impressive since the first NBA All-Star Game debut in 1951. Basketball faithful’s loved everything that comes with the NBA All-Stars event, but one clamor that seems not to be going away until it is honored, remains the call to expand the NBA All-Star game roster.

NBA All-Star Game was first played 2nd March 1951, each roster consisted of 10 players. There were 11 teams in the league then; teams were allowed to start the season with 11 players on their roster, and they were forced to trim down to 10 before the All-Star Game. Mathematically, 20 out of 110 players made it to the first All-Star Game; hence, 18% of the league was considered worthy of this event when the idea was conceived.

The purpose of the All-Star Game, on a broad level, has always been to celebrate the league’s best talent, and with the NBA expanding by the day, more skills are on teams’ rosters now than ever. The competition to reach the All-Star game in 2023, with two-way players expanding the rosters to 17, is now stiffer than ever.

It may be time to correct this “injustice”, and expanding the All-Star rosters from 12 players to 15 may be a clever move. Therefore, the idea of making the All-Star event featuring four different teams with 15 players on each roster is to give fair chances to players who have missed out on the log in previous times. Basketball has more All-Star-caliber players than ever. Why fewer players are getting recognition for the All-Star game remains a mystery.
