Super Eagles defender, Semi Ajayi captained West Bromwich Albion for the final stages of their hard fought 1-1 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion at the American Express Community Stadium.

The Nigerian who was an unused substitute last week during the Baggies goalless draw against struggling Burnley at The Hawthorns made a return to be side and played for 90 minutes alongside ex-Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic in the heart of defense.

Just before half-time, Brighton went in front when Tariq Lamptey’s low cross was turned into his own net by former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jake Livermore.

The Baggies fought back in the second half as new signing Karlan Grant collected a loose ball inside the 18-yard box and powered into the net to deny Brighton of a home win.

Jake Livermore was replaced in the 63rd minute by Callum Robinson and the armband was handed to Super Eagles defender Ajayi for the reminder of the encounter.

Semi Ajayi’s West Brom currently sit 17th on the premier league log with just three points, a spot below Brighton who have five points after six round of matches in the ongoing 2020/2021 season.
