Manchester United have been thwarted in a shock bid to offload Paul Pogba in return for Juventus duo Paulo Dybala and Miralem Pjanic, who have reportedly both rejected a move to Old Trafford that would have returned the France midfielder to his former club.

Pogba, who cost United a then-record £89 million when he rejoined the club in 2016 four years after leaving for Juve on a free transfer, is out of contract at the end of next season and has been offered back to the reigning Italian champions, according to an Italian source.

Argentina striker Paulo Dybala and Bosnia and Herzegovina playmaker Pjanic do not want to leave the Serie A table toppers, Rai Sport correspondent Paolo Paganini revealed.

The deal could have reunited Pogba with his admirers at the Allianz Stadium, where he scored 28 goals in 124 appearances while helping the club to win four successive titles.

Dybala was one of Pogba’s team-mates during his final season at the club and could provide attacking acumen at Old Trafford, having scored 64 goals in 152 appearances and regularly partnered former United star Cristiano Ronaldo at Juve.

Pjanic replaced Pogba for the club in 2016 and would have done so again had United’s audacious suggestion not been apparently dashed by their targets.

Injury-troubled Pogba has made just seven appearances for United this season and has repeatedly been rumoured to be keen to leave the club.

Coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said he is hopeful that Pogba can return to combine with Bruno Fernandes, who has impressed in midfield since signing from Sporting Lisbon for an initial fee of £47 million at the end of January.

United have also been dismissed by Inter Milan after expressing an interest in highly-rated Slovakia defender Milan Skriniar, Paganini has reported.

The 25-year-old centre-back, who has been linked to Manchester City, became the most expensive Slovak player in history when he joined Inter from Sampdoria for around £17.5 million in 2017.
