UPDATED: Power outage cripples National Assembly

OrderPaperToday – Electricity supply has now been restored at the House of Representatives office wing of the National Assembly which had been shut down due to power failure for an upward of 24 hours.

OrderPaperNG earlier reported that the outage occurred since about 11.00am on Monday, July 9, 2018.

“This no light issue has been like this since yesterday.  The AEDC are been owed for some time now and the people supplying diesel too have not been paid so this morning they cut power supply in this new wing as well”, a worker who pleaded anonymity told OrderPaperNG.

Consequently all toilets in the building has also been temporarily shut down due to the consequent lack of water. OrderPaperNG observed that most of the restrooms had inscription on the door, “pls no water go to new wing pls.”
The Office of the Speaker on the 4th floor of the building had also been thrown into darkness.
Public hearings also scheduled for the day which were also affected by the outage have resumed.
Recall that the National Assembly has a budgetary allocation of N139billion in the 2018 budget up from N125billion and N115billion in 2017 and 2016 respectively.
