Lazio head of communications Arturo Diaconale took another swipe at Juventus, insisting that waiting for all teams to resume training simultaneously would “unjustly penalise those who behaved virtuously” during the pandemic.

Serie A has been shut down for a month now due to the coronavirus crisis and plans are being drawn up on how to get back on the field, as the number of new cases, deaths and ICU admissions have all dropped significantly.

The Biancocelesti, who sit one point behind leaders Juve, have been pushing harder than anyone to be allowed to get back to work.

“According to Juventus fans, the Government ought to regulate when training can resume, inspired by the concept of starting from a position of equality to benefit all citizens,” wrote Diaconale on his Facebook page.

“In their view, as there are some clubs who allowed their players to leave Italy and therefore must put them into quarantine for 14 days before they resume training, the date when training can start must be only after the quarantine is finished.

“All of this would not give any advantage to those clubs who preferred not to give permission for players to leave, predicting that sooner or later, the game would be back.

“Is it too much to hope that the Government isn’t influenced by the pressure from Juventus fans to ‘level the playing field’, which would unjustly penalise those who behaved virtuously and prove an unjustified reward to the others?”
