The acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has vowed to deal decisively with elements that may want to disrupt peace in Saturday’s general elections.

Adamu sounded the note of warning on Friday via the official Twitter page of the Force, less than 24 hours to the polls.

“Any citizen that intends to offer himself/herself to be used negatively as cannon folders for political actors should either have a rethink or be ready to face the consequences. We will deal decisively with elements that attempt to test our will by engaging in electoral offences,” he stated.

According to the IGP, personnel of the Force have been properly “mobilized, trained & adequately motivated to act professionally in the elections.”

While promising not to disappoint the masses, the police chief stated that Election Duty Allowances have already been paid directly into individual salary account.

Speaking on vote buying, Adamu said a Special Election Investigation Team (SEIT) had been set up to curb the menace.

“I have set up a Special Election Investigation Team (SEIT) tasked with the exclusive functions of taking in custody and undertaking a detailed investigation of all arrested electoral offenders including those involved in vote buying and selling across the country.”

He also reiterated the commitment of the police to adequately secure the lives and properties of Nigerians by collaborating with other security agencies.
