What Aubameyang Said After Helping Arsenal Win Community Shield

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang helped Arsenal to a Community Shield victory over Liverpool at Wembly and hinted that he might be staying at the club beyond his current deal.

The Gunners have won or shared the Community Shield for a 16th time, including four of the last seven. They overtake opponents Liverpool (15). Only Manchester United have won or shared more (21).

Aubameyang, asked on BT Sport whether he’ll sign a new contract: “We’re going to see in these days. Today we take the trophy, that’s it. We are improving. There is still work to do but I’m really happy and it’s an exciting time to be an Arsenal player.”

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, speaking to BT Sport said on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: “Big games, big moments, big players. He has responded really well to that kind of pressure. He was magnificent in the FA Cup final and the same today.”

He then added: “I’m so happy. I knew the challenge we were facing today. Thank you to the players for the effort and the performance.

“The courage of the team [was the most pleasing thing], how aggressive we were without the ball and to break the pressure of Liverpool. I knew in the second half we would suffer. This generates belief, to be able to compete against a team like this in a final makes me happy.”

Aubameyang has now Captained Arsenal to FA Cup and Community Shield glory under Mikel Arteta who joined the Gunners from Manchester City.
