Manchester United players returned to Carrington individually on Sunday, spending around 15 minutes at the club’s training ground before leaving.

The United squad are due to resume training in small groups this week ahead of the Premier League’s planned resumption of competitive action in June.

On Sunday each player and first-team staff member was given a time slot to arrive at Carrington, where a drive-thru COVID-19 testing facility was installed last week.

It is understood those arriving were tested ahead of the expected return to the training ground in groups this week.

United’s players have been keeping fit ahead of their return to the training ground, with some working out in public parks after the restrictions on outdoor exercise were eased by the government.

Marcus Rashford, who has been visiting Carrington on his own recently as part of his rehabilitation from a back injury, trained at Altrincham’s Moss Lane ground earlier on Sunday.

Paul Pogba, Andreas Pereira and Victor Lindelof trained in a park together on Thursday, while Daniel James and Luke Shaw worked out together on a school playing field in Cheshire on Friday.

The return to training is the first phase of the Premier League’s Project Restart, which aims to get the season back up and running in mid-June.

There are 92 games remaining to be played and they will be contested behind closed doors, with more discussions set to take place between the Premier League, clubs, players and government officials before the restart is confirmed.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said last week he expected to have a fully-fit squad to choose from if the season resumes in June.

“Of course we’re trying to improve all the time, develop as a team, and now we’ve got a full squad to choose from, and hopefully we’ve been looking after ourselves in the two months that we’ve been out,” he said.

“We just have to play it by ear and hope they click early. But let’s get back to training first and then hopefully we can play soon.”
