A woman has been jailed for having sex with her own adopted teenage son but the lad insists they did nothing wrong. Lauren Myres had been divorced from her husband for just nine days before being arrested in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, USA.
The 26-year-old was a caseworker for fostering organisation Families First Network – and the boy had been assigned to her for care. She initially fostered the child, who has not been named, but later decided to adopt him as her own son.
It was only after that adoption was finalised that it was discovered Myres and the victim were regularly romping, according to local news station WJHG.
A court was told that in May this year police received a tip about an inappropriate relationship between Myres and the 17-year-old victim. The mother and son told investigators they had sex multiple times over a two-month period.
Court documents say she admitted to cops that they slept together “seven to eight times”. But in disturbing interviews with detectives, the teenager said that he did not feel they were doing anything wrong. He told them that “he was not being raped and was about to be 18”, the documents said.
Myres, who pleaded no contest, was sentenced on Thursday to six years in prison for one count of unlawful sexual activity with certain minors. She will be placed on sex offender probation for four years and has been ordered to complete sex offender counselling.
Myres cannot have contact with the victim or any minors.
