Real Madrid’s senior players embarked on their third day of individual training at Valdebebas on Wednesday, however Zinedine Zidane faces a difficult situation with Karim Benzema standing as his sole attacking option.

Luka Jovic and Mariano Diaz are both injured, thus leaving Benzema as the only natural No.9 who is ready to play right away.

Benzema has played a lot of football since Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure, taking on the role of main goalscorer, and that burden hasn’t been helped by Eden Hazard’s injury-hit debut season at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

He scored 30 goals in the 2018/19 season, which was the second-best return of his career, and to this point in 2019/20 he has scored 19 goals in 36 matches, which is far ahead of the club’s next leading scorers Sergio Ramos and Rodrygo Goes.

Although it’s under rather unique conditions, Benzema worked normally on Wednesday, but it would be a nightmare for Zidane if he was to somehow become unavailable.

Marco Asensio’s return to work on the training pitch could give Zidane an alternate goalscoring option, but he is so far adrift of match fitness that it would be unfair to throw him straight back into action.

With Gareth Bale living in his own bubble at the moment and Hazard battling to return from his own injury, the only available attacking players who can help Benzema are Vinicius and Rodrygo, something which Zidane and Los Blancos desperately need.
